We all know they say when you turn 18,  You are legally free from the shackles of childhood. Although you are still considered a child lawfully because the minimum drinking age is 21.

So when do you become an adult ? Believe it or not if 18 year olds are allowed to rent an apartment, lease a car and pay bills they should automatically fit in the adults category. No matter the age, if you are only dependent on yourself and sustaining yourself you are an adult. You are doing things without the guidance or support of others. I believe anyone who can take care of themselves financially and physically is considered an adult.

For instance, going to college. When you start going to college mostly at 18 and it is time to leave your parents home and start your future you are automatically becoming independent, your parents won’t be there guiding you to class or making dinner for you once you reach home after class. That’s the moment when you realize you aren’t a child anymore, you are going into your adult years.   

Yes , Even though some people may agree that students going to college doesn’t mean they are able to do whatever they want, because they are still in school, the responsibility and consequences aren’t on the parents anymore. Anything and everything you do will be at the students hands. I have always wondered why parents cried during move-in days for college students. Until I realized that the reason why is because their child is going into the real world “ their baby is becoming grown” and won’t need to depend on them any longer. 

     Adulthood comes quicker than expected, people reach adulthood stages on a daily basis. When you are able to care for yourself without guidance you have officially become an adult.
