The North High girls volleyball team has been giving their all this season, showing teamwork, growth, and school pride. Even though the season has had its ups and downs, the players say they are staying positive and working to improve every game.
One player described the season as pretty decent but said the team knows they can do even better. She explained that each game helps them learn and become stronger as a team. Her favorite match was against Bartlett, where everyone stayed focused and played together. She said that game stood out because the team kept a good attitude and played with energy.
Something that makes the North High volleyball team unique is their tradition of praying before every game. The players believe this brings them closer and helps them feel calm before stepping on the court. “Most teams do not do that,” one player said, adding that it helps them play as one team with one goal.
The team’s preparation for big games is serious. They practice rotations, serve receive, and full game simulations to be ready for anything. Rest and recovery are also part of their routine so they can perform their best. Coach G and the team captains, Desiree, Marenity, and Farah, play a big role in keeping everyone motivated and focused.
After tough losses, the players admit that it can be hard to stay positive, but they try to focus on what went well instead of what went wrong. “I think about the good plays I made and focus less on the negative plays and losses,” one player said. This mindset helps them move forward and keep their confidence.
Volleyball has also taught the players many life lessons. “Volleyball is a mental game. You have to be in the right state of mind to play well,” one team member shared. They have learned that communication is key, not only on the court but in life too.
Even with the hard work, the team always finds time to have fun. Many players said Danielle is the funniest teammate because she is always joking around and keeping everyone laughing during practices and games. The team’s energy and friendship make every practice more enjoyable.
Representing North High means a lot to the players. “It feels nice to represent North High School, especially after the basketball team won the championships,” one said. They want to continue bringing pride to the school through effort and sportsmanship.
The players also want other students to know that they work hard every day, even if the record doesn’t always show it. “The volleyball team genuinely works hard in every practice and game. Just don’t look at the record,” one player joked.
When asked what her favorite part about being on the team is, one player said, “Being able to play volleyball and make new friends.” That feeling of teamwork and connection is what drives the North High girls volleyball team to keep improving and supporting one another, both on and off the court.
