Fc Barcelona Review

Fc. Barcelona enjoyed an incredible 2024-2025 season campaign under their new head coach Hansi Flick, who replaced their former coach, Xavi Hernandez in May 2024. Hansi Flick’s debut season delivered a domestic treble. La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España, while the team reached the Champions League semi-finals against Inter Milan. Robert Lewandowski, Raphina, and Lamine Yamal led the way with being one of the best attacking trio across the world.

New Manager, New style:

Hansi Flick, formerly of Bayern Munich and Germany, introduced a high line and high press system that transformed Barcelona’s play. His philosophy emphasizes quick transitions, suffocating opponents in their own half, and turning defense into attack in a blink of an eye.

Defensive partnerships and Full-Back Impact:

A key to Flick’s system has been the center-back partnership, which must balance the risks of a high defensive line. With the defenders often left exposed, communicate and anticipation are vital. Meanwhile, full-backs like Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde have become crucial, not only defending wide spaces but also pushing forward to overload attacks. Their dual role highlights the tactical demands of Flick’s pressing game.

New Season, Same Problems?

Despite winning the domestic treble, questions linger about the team since the start of the season.

Defensive vulnerability: Playing such a high line leaves Barcelona open to counterattacks, as seen in defeats against Real Madrid, PSG, and Osasuna.

Squad depth: Injuries of the likes of Robert Lewandoski, Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie De Jong, Raphina, Joan Garcia have exposed gaps and especially the departure of Inigo Martinez in the defense.
