North High’s Basketball Varsity season has come to an end and the growth from this team during the two years was a lot to talk about. The growth from last year to this year has been amazing. Last season the team went 4-16 and just started their four-game winning streak at the last four games. This year they went 9-11. Huge improvement from the last season to this season. If they would have won their last two games, they would have been 11-11.
The JV basketball team had an improving season this year going 11-7 at the end of the season. Last year the JV team was 4-10 because we didn’t really know how to play with each other until the last four games of the season. This year the JV players feel more connected and know how to play together with each other with the help of the Varsity coach. I feel like the JV team really improved compared to last year.
The Varsity team also before the season did some conditioning and weightlifting and running on the track every week until the first week of basketball season. JV also did it with them preparing for the season ahead. It makes them ready and stronger and faster for the season. The team in general was more ready for this year than last year because everyone had to get used to playing with each other. Varsity also had fall league and crompton before the sason.
The JV Players had paal and also running and weightlifting with varsity. Paal is a league that selected players play for their schools before the real season starts. It gave the Jv players a warmup before they play their season. They also ran on the track and did some weigthlifting to get bigger for the season ahead. They also had to learn how to play together and paal had a lot to do with it.
This season for varsity was a very improving season because they went from having one of the worst inter high records last year to improving and having a way better record overall. They almost won close games like doherty and also had some very good games against better teams this year. The leading scorer Jason Abban said that ” This year we did way better. It was a better season overall and we really knew how to be connected with each other”.
JV had a better season overall too because they went from having a 4-10 record to a 11-7 record. Many players left this year and now we had a team that knew how to play with each other and knew how to connect and have chemistry on the court. JV season was better because they also beat teams that won when they played them at their school. They would then beat them more than they lost too. It was a excellent season overall.
